This Department of Motor Vehicles has a comprehensive website which addresses almost every question that you may have relating to everything from getting a license to operate a motor vehicle, to Driving While Intoxicated. Unfortunately, it is sometimes difficult to find the information that you are looking for when you visit the Department of Motor Vehicle website, and it is very difficult to contact the department by telephone. To address this situation we have created this page in an effort to simplify the way you access the voluminous information that exists on the website.

New York State Driver Licenses

If you are interested in learning about the process of getting a permit and a license to operate a motor vehicle, please visit the New York DMV website section on Driver Licenses. This is because of the unique responsibility that we place on commercial drivers due to the recognition that they often drive more than the rest of us, and often under conditions that the rest of us may opt not to drive in. New York State Point System

Traffic tickets may adversely impact your ability to drive. It must be noted that a Driver License is a privilege and not a right. That means that the state has great authority to regulate Driver licenses. You may lose your license for a variety of reasons, including three speeding violations within 18 months, failure to pay child support and failure to pay taxes. Of course, there are other ways to lose your license such as Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Vehicular Assault or Vehicular Manslaughter. New York State DWI Penalties

If you have been convicted of a DWI, DWAI, DWAI Drugs or other DWI related offense, there are significant impacts to your ability to operate a motor vehicle. You may have your license suspended. Your license may be suspended, or it may even be revoked. In fat, in New York, if you have multiple DWI convictions, you may be prevented from applying for a new license.
